SARENA HSU | Violin
Sarena Hsu is a violinist based in Los Angeles with a diverse musical career that spans classical, contemporary, and cinematic worlds. She has had the privilege of performing with a wide range of artists, including Sabrina Carpenter, RAYE, Miley Cyrus, The Eagles, Björk, Halsey, and Twenty-One Pilots. Sarena’s work has also been featured on recordings for artists like Jennifer Hudson and P!nk, blending her classical training with contemporary musical styles. Sarena's talents have extended to film and television, where she has contributed to projects such as Twisters, Transformers One, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Star Trek: Picard, and 1923. She has also been fortunate to perform on renowned platforms such as The Grammys, NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
In addition to her work in popular music and media, Sarena has enjoyed a fulfilling career in orchestral music. She has been Assistant Principal 2nd violin of the California Symphony since 2018, and has performed in some of the world’s most respected venues, including the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Munich Philharmonic Hall, Smetana Hall, and Davies Symphony Hall.
Sarena holds a Master of Music in Violin Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Wei He, and a Bachelor of Music from California State University, Sacramento, under the guidance of Ian Swensen.When she’s not performing, Sarena enjoys sharing her love of music with her students. She teaches violin, viola, and piano, offering guidance to musicians at all levels. With a deep respect for both the traditional and contemporary sides of music, Sarena continues to find joy in collaborating, learning, and growing as an artist.
